On March 13, 2005, John McGivern, local comedian, actor and author performed a special fundraising benefit to raise money to help children in Washington County build drug free lives. Born in Milwaukee, one of six children in an Irish Catholic working class family, his stories about family and friends are told with sincerity, compassion and humor. John is also a regularly featured guest on WKLH-FM 96.5 in Milwaukee and has a regular spot on Todays TMJ 4.
Over 230 people enjoyed the show and raised over $5,800 for the agency. Special thanks to everyone who attended and to the following who were donors/sponsors of the event:
- Rogers Memorial Hospital
- Sysco Foods
- Giggles Comedy Pub
- Serigraph
The Council is partnering with St. Francis Bank and their Community banking program to raise extra money for our prevention efforts in Washington County. Open a new account and St. Francis Bank will make a donation to our organization. An added bonus, interest-bearing accounts are also a part of the fund raising effort and St. Francis Bank will match an additional 2% of the interest each account earns, each year, when the account is "linked" to The Council. This will not decrease the amount of interest your account will earn and your individual account information will not be shared with anyone.
Open a checking account at St. Francis and the Council earns $25. Open a money market account and the Council earns $15. A new savings account is worth $10 and a CD with a term of 12 months or longer is worth $10.
If you already bank with St. Francis Bank, simply call 414-744-8600 to "link" your account to the Council and earn the same donation for us. Or, simply speak with your branch manager about the Community banking program. St. Francis Banks are located in the following communities: Cudahy, Germantown, Greendale, Hartford, Kewaskum, Lake Geneva, Menomonee Falls, Muskego, New Berlin, Oak Creek, St. Francis, Theinsville, Waukesha, Wauwatosa, West Bend, West Allis and Milwaukee.
Competing flower sales, the amount of time to organize the event and declining sales, have forced the Council to make the decision to discontinue our spring flower sale. The flower sale was a standard event for us over the past 10 years and we appreciate all of the individuals and organizations that have purchased flowers from us in the past. We invite and welcome your continued support of our organization either through a donation or as a volunteer.
